Transcript: Dr. Walter Martin mentions praying for a Vice President for CRI while answering a question at his Bible Class at Newport Mesa Christian Center, October 02, 1988 *
Dr. Walter Martin: “You can ask whatever you want from the Lord, asking if it be in accordance with His will. Uh, I’ve asked the Lord for CRI’s mortgages. I’ve asked the Lord for this $100,000.00 to pay off these pressing bills. I’ve asked the Lord for a new, uh, member of our staff. I need a Vice-President to be ‘Mr. Inside’ while I’m ‘Mr. Outside’ ‘cause I can’t be both places at the same time! And, there’s a man right now who is considering this and we’re praying about that. We don’t have the mon…, the money to pay him a salary, but I’m praying about that. I pray about all kinds of things connected with money, connected with family, connected with friends, healing… I think we can ask God for anything, but we should temper it with the knowledge that it’s not to be consumed upon our desires, but for His glory. And perhaps this gentleman got the money because it was for God’s glory and God wanted him to have that. That’s very possible. But for every person that God gives a $1,000,000.00 to, there’s probably 50 thousand, or 100 thousand, or more, a lot more than that He doesn’t give it to. Must be a good reason for it, huh? Some people can handle it, and some people can’t. If you control the money, that’s one thing. If the money controls you, you’re in trouble. I see a lot of Christians get money, and the money controls them. They can do all kinds of things for God when they get money, then they get money and you never see them again! They’re out spending the money someplace else. Now, this is no way to raise support for Christian Research Institute, but I am telling you the truth.”
